Added 30% more employees worldwide during a year that saw 46% revenue growth, record new-customer acquisition and the release of security-focused solutions

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Black Duck©, a global leader in automated solutions for securing and managing open source software, today announced a major expansion at its Burlington, Mass., global headquarters that will add 35 percent more office and engineering space. When construction is completed in early spring, Black Duck will occupy the entire second floor of the 800 District Avenue office complex.

During 2015, Black Duck’s employee count grew nearly 30 percent worldwide to 230, and the company projects a similar level of growth this year. In addition to its expansion in Greater Boston, Black Duck increased staffing and opened offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Nordics and Benelux.

The headquarters expansion caps a year that saw 46 percent overall revenue growth for Black Duck, including a more than 50 percent revenue increase in its On-Demand business, which conducted more than 650 open source risk assessments and open source audits.

Additionally, the company acquired new customers at an unprecedented rate; released Black Duck Hub, its first open source security-focused solution and winner of the Mass Technology Leadership Council’s award as most innovative security technology of the year; released container-scanning capabilities for its Hub solution; added Siemens Venture Capital to its investor group; announced a collaboration with Red Hat to provide a trusted model for secure, enterprise-ready containers; and signed major distribution agreements in EMEA and North America to complement its new channel strategy.

“In 2015 we strategically expanded our market focus, adding solutions to address issues that organizations worldwide are having in securing and managing their open source. Use of open source is ubiquitous because it can reduce development costs and accelerate time to market, but the explosive growth in open source use over the last five years has been accompanied by security challenges that have resulted in costly, high-profile exploitations,” said Black Duck CEO N. Louis Shipley.

“We think that the Hub is being adopted very quickly because of the value it delivers in giving customers an automated way to gain the visibility they need – including mapping any known vulnerabilities – into their open source use to secure it and manage it better,” Shipley said. “The need for what the Hub delivers is clear based on the record rate we acquired new customers last year.”

Shipley said the alliance with Red Hat in October to create a trusted model for secure use of containers in the enterprise is a “good example of two experienced open source companies collaborating closely to solve a significant challenge that is inhibiting enterprise adoption of an innovative technology.”

“We look forward to participating in additional strategic partnerships in 2016,” Shipley said.
