Uli Stilz

Senior Partner, Pioneering Medicines Partnerships

Uli Stilz joined Flagship Pioneering in 2026 and serves as Senior Partner, Pioneering Medicines Partnerships, where he focuses on advancing Flagship’s global ecosystem partnerships and innovation collaborations across company creation, platform innovation, and asset development. His work includes shaping next-generation partnership models, expanding Flagship’s Innovation Supply Chain (ISC) collaborations, and strengthening Flagship’s engagement across the global biopharmaceutical ecosystem.

Uli joined Flagship after more than three decades of leadership across the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, spanning scientific innovation, R&D strategy, and external innovation. He has extensive experience building and scaling therapeutics platforms and companies at the intersection of emerging biology, new modalities, and AI, translating scientific breakthroughs into durable therapeutic impact.

Before joining Flagship, Uli was Corporate Vice President at Novo Nordisk, where he led External Innovation globally. Prior to this role, he founded and scaled the Bio Innovation Hub, creating a venture-style R&D platform that built a multi-asset portfolio with a strong emphasis on first-in-class programs and novel modalities, contributing significantly to Novo Nordisk’s early-stage pipeline. Earlier in his career, he held senior scientific and innovation leadership roles at Sanofi and Novo Nordisk, contributing to more than 60 development candidates, including 30 INDs, across cardiometabolic disease, immunology, and oncology.

Uli serves on the Board of Aerska Therapeutics and is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at CaVos. He is also Vice Chair of the Kendall Square Association and serves as a Strategic Advisor to Jefferson Life Sciences and other investment organizations. Previously, he served as President of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC) and was recognized as an EFMC Honoree in 2020 and a Fierce 50 Innovation Honoree in 2024.

Uli trained in organic chemistry at ETH Zürich and earned his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry under Nobel laureate Hartmut Michel and Professor Dieter Oesterhelt. He subsequently completed postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) with Peter Dervan.
