Thomas Noriega

Thomas Noriega joined Flagship Pioneering in 2025 as a Principal ML Engineer for Pioneering Intelligence, where he applies cutting-edge AI, with a focus on agentic technologies, to accelerate drug target discovery and biological insight generation across the Flagship ecosystem.

Before joining Flagship, Thomas worked at Flagship-founded ProFound Therapeutics, leading ML research and deployment and developing transformer models for novel protein identification. Earlier, he built AI-powered computer vision and biomedical NLP systems at InferLink, and customer segmentation and forecasting models at Dia&Co. Prior to that, , he was a founding member of Beyond Meat's R&D group, leading cross-functional teams from concept through commercial launch, including the Beyond Sausage, named one of TIME Magazine's Top 50 Inventions of 2018.

Thomas has authored three patent applications based on novel ML methodologies and holds one granted manufacturing technology patent. He is a co-author on seven peer-reviewed publications spanning biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, with work appearing in PNAS, eLife, Nature Genetics, and the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Thomas earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC San Francisco and his B.A. in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College.
