Subramanian Sundaram
Associate

Subramanian Sundaram joined Flagship Pioneering in 2025 as an Associate, where he focuses on originating ventures at the intersection of bioengineering, robotics, and AI.
Before joining Flagship, Subra held a joint postdoctoral appointment at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University and Boston University, where he developed advanced fabrication technologies to engineer blood vessels and tissues. During his Ph.D. at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT, he conducted foundational work in tactile sensing and autonomous material systems for applications in robotics and human–machine interaction.
He has authored over 25 publications in journals including Nature, Science, Science Robotics, and PNAS, and is a co-inventor on multiple patents. He has received fellowships from the American Heart Association and the MIT Energy Initiative and served as Associate Editor of IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters. His work has been featured in media outlets such as The Economist, BBC Radio, PBS NOVA, and Forbes.
Subra holds a Ph.D. and S.M. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, and dual B.E. (Honors) degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani, India.
