Siavash Monfared
Associate
Siavash Monfared joined Flagship Pioneering in 2025 as an Associate following the completion of the AI/ML track of the 2025 Flagship Summer Fellowship. His work centers on new venture origination at the intersection of science, artificial intelligence, and frontier technologies.
With expertise in computational physics and the modeling of complex physical systems, Siavash has conducted research spanning porous materials, granular physics, and active matter. He uses large-scale, high-performance computational modeling and deep-learning methods to uncover fundamental principles ranging from collective self-organization and emergent behavior in multicellular biological systems to the physics of structure formation in systems composed of non-convex particles.
His cross-disciplinary work has led to high-impact publications and recognition, including the Grand Advances in Biology Medal from the French Academy of Sciences and the Leon Rosenfeld Foundation Fellowship at the Niels Bohr Institute of the University of Copenhagen.
Siavash earned his Ph.D. in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has held postdoctoral appointments at the Niels Bohr Institute of the University of Copenhagen and the Caltech Division of Engineering and Applied Science and was a visiting scholar in the Department of Physics at Harvard University.
