Shamsah Kazani

Vice President, Project Leadership and Development, Pioneering Medicines

Shamsah Kazani joined Flagship Pioneering in 2025 and serves as Vice President for Project Leadership and Development at Pioneering Medicines. In this role, Shamsah leads the design and execution of Clinical Development strategies for all programs at Pioneering Medicines as their pipeline expands to the clinic.

Previously, Shamsah was the Clinical Development Lead for Business Development projects in Internal Medicine at Pfizer, where she led clinical due diligence teams assessing external obesity and CVRM assets. Prior to Pfizer, Shamsah spent 10 years in Translational Medicine and Clinical Drug Development at Novartis and at Alexion/AstraZeneca, leading early and late phase Respiratory, Critical Care, and Immunology programs.

During her academic career, Shamsah was on the faculty at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where she ran NIH and American Lung Association-funded clinical and translational research projects examining pharmacogenomics and non-invasive exhaled biomarkers of airway inflammation in Asthma. She established the Pulmonary Program at the Mass General Brigham Healthcare Center in Foxborough after completing her Clinical and Research fellowship at Harvard Medical School in 2009. Shamsah has authored over 35 publications and has made contributions to articles published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet Respiratory Medicine, and the Journal of Immunology.
