Sandip Datta

Sandip joined Flagship Pioneering in 2025 as Vice President of Product & Pipeline Innovation. He leads a team working closely with Flagship’s Innovation Supply Chain partners to create and advance novel product concepts, helping to translate emerging technologies from across the Flagship ecosystem into high-impact pipeline opportunities.

Sandip is a physician-scientist and drug developer with more than 20 years of experience spanning clinical medicine, translational science, and basic research across industry, government, and academia. Prior to joining Flagship, he held leadership roles in translational sciences and early clinical development at Merck, Johnson & Johnson, and Aditum Bio. Earlier in his career, he was a Principal Investigator at NIH/NIAID and an Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Diego, mentoring more than 20 early-career scientists and authoring over 50 publications focused on immunology and host defense. He is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Sandip completed his clinical training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at University of California, San Diego. He earned his MD from the University of California, San Francisco, and his B.S. in Biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
