Rick Paucek

Associate

Rick Paucek joined Flagship Pioneering as an Associate in 2022. He works as part of a team of interdisciplinary innovators to drive ventures from origination to value and to create and develop first-in-category platform companies to transform human health.

Rick received his M.D. from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he was a Geffen Scholar. He received clinical training and cared for patients at UCLA Health affiliated hospitals throughout Southern California. Outside of the clinic, he worked in David Baltimore’s lab at the California Institute of Technology where he focused on developing neoantigen-specific T cell receptor therapies for cancer treatment. Rick also worked in the Los Angeles office of Vida Ventures, contributing to projects in strategy, business, and investing to advance biomedical innovations.

Rick graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado Boulder with a dual B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He was named a Goldwater Scholar and contributed to understanding mechanisms of gene regulation by RNAs under the direction of Tom Cech.
