Nathan Hancock

Senior Principal

Nathan Hancock serves as a Senior Principal at Flagship Pioneering, where he specializes in venture creation for the origination team led by Ignacio Martinez. Working closely with fellow entrepreneurs, he advances early-stage biotechnology and sustainability ventures by defining and delivering value through scientific, operational, and strategic insights.

With extensive experience in hard tech and bioprocessing commercialization, Nathan has held various positions in startups and large corporations. His past roles include Vice President of Materials R&D and Senior Director of Strategic Product Planning for Pall Life Sciences (now Cytiva) within Danaher Corporation. Before joining Danaher, Nathan was a serial entrepreneur and consultant engaging in all stages of company development from inception to acquisition. He held various roles at the Wyss Institute at Harvard, William Blair investment bank, and as technology lead for a Flagship founded company, Oasys Water.

In recognition of his efforts to enable sustainable water use in the energy sector, Nathan was named to LinkedIn's inaugural list of the Top 10 Professionals Under 35. He has co-authored over 30 publications and patents, with three of his manuscripts ranking among Elsevier's Top 25 Most Downloaded Articles in their respective years of publication. His technical works have been cited more than 3,500 times. 

Nathan earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Environmental Science and Engineering and BS (Summa cum Laude) in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. He also earned an M.B.A. (with honors) from Harvard Business School. Additionally, Nathan is a licensed Professional Engineer in chemical engineering through the National Society of Professional Engineers.
