Head of Events & Brand Experience

Melissa Briggie joined Flagship Pioneering as head of events in 2019. Melissa oversees the strategic planning, development, implementation, and execution of all Flagship Pioneering events. She focuses on Flagship’s larger annual events and on creating new events that engage with business, academia, and government as well as the general public about important issues in health and sustainability. She also leads efforts to leverage and elevate the success of events by creatively executing programs that increase Flagship’s public profile.

Melissa comes to Flagship with extensive experience in media industry events and marketing in New York City. She has held senior positions at National Geographic, Bloomberg L.P., New York magazine, The New Yorker, and Forbes Media. While at National Geographic she served as the events director, a role she originated, to produce high-profile events featuring photographers, scientists, explorers, and editors, and she partnered with leading organizations such as The Aspen Institute to engage thought leaders in salient conversations and to showcase editorial content and brand initiatives. For New York Magazine, she was the lead producer of the Vulture Festival, a bi-coastal cultural Festival featuring luminaries from across the entertainment industry that took place in New York City in May 2018 and in Los Angeles in November of 2018.

Melissa holds a B.A. in communications with a focus on journalism from Boston College. She also attended university in Spain at Complutense University of Madrid.
