Associate

Liam Casey joined Flagship Pioneering as an associate after completing the 2020 Flagship Pioneering Fellowship. At Flagship, Liam works with a team of entrepreneurial scientists to create life science companies using an origination to value process for innovation. In his role, he advances the vision, strategy, and operations for first-in-category platform companies, from concept to growth phase.

Liam earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan where he researched biodegradable nanoparticles as a platform for modulating innate and adaptive immune responses. Specifically, he investigated the induction of antigen-specific immune tolerance as a strategy for reversing autoimmunity. After his graduate studies, he co-founded a biotechnology company where he led the commercialization activities.

Prior to graduate school, Liam delivered biopharma process control solutions at NECI. He earned his M.S. in chemical and biological engineering from Northwestern University and B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
