Jake Feala

Principal

Jake joined Flagship Pioneering in October 2022 as a Principal. As part of a cross-disciplinary team, Jake hunts down new ideas at the intersection of biology and technology and brings them into existence.

Jake was previously an employee of two Flagship founded companies: Generate Biomedicines and Moderna. At Generate, he led early computational biology efforts before joining a small, cross-functional team responsible for prototyping novel applications of generative protein design. At Moderna, he led the development and clinical implementation of the bioinformatics pipeline for the personalized cancer vaccine. Early in his career, Jake worked at H3 Biomedicines, mining patient genomics data from The Cancer Genome Atlas.

Jake interacts with the computational biology community through a series of blog posts and speaking engagements on computational topics in biotech. He spent over two years as a consultant, engaging with dozens of biotech startups, including several Flagship-founded companies, to solve their bioinformatics and data science challenges.

Jake earned a Ph.D. in Bioengineering in 2008 from U.C. San Diego, following a double B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
