Jake Feala

Jake Feala joined Flagship Pioneering in October 2022 and serves as a Senior Principal, where he works to originate new ventures at the intersection of biology, software, and artificial intelligence. He is currently focused on closing the loop between AI models and real-world data to create new approaches to human health.

Previously, Jake co-founded Lila Sciences, where he led the initial autonomous science platform for the life sciences. Before that, he was an early employee at Generate Biomedicines, where he served as Head of Computational Biology supporting AI-guided protein design.

Jake's career spans computational biology, genomics, and biotech entrepreneurship. At Moderna, he built the clinical bioinformatics pipeline for the personalized cancer vaccine program. He founded Outlier Bio, a genomics consulting firm serving over 15 biotech startups, and at H3 Biomedicine pioneered large-scale cancer genomics analyses.

Jake holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from UC San Diego and dual B.S. degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He writes frequently on the application of AI and engineering principles to the life sciences.
