Deanna Sumrein

Deanna Sumrein joined Flagship Pioneering in 2021 and is currently a Senior Benefits Specialist. In this role, she supports the administration of health and welfare benefit programs, with a focus on leave management, vendor coordination, and delivering a seamless employee experience. She serves as a key point of contact for employees, providing guidance on benefits, managing complex leave cases, and ensuring accurate coordination across systems and vendors. She partners cross-functionally with Payroll, Finance, internal stakeholders, and external vendors to support operations, maintain compliance, and resolve issues as they arise.

Deanna began her time at Flagship supporting payroll operations before transitioning into a dedicated benefits role. Prior to Flagship, she was a Human Resources Specialist at Flagship-founded Cygnal Therapeutics, where she supported the recruitment lifecycle, talent management, professional development, and payroll and benefits across all departments.

She brings a strong foundation in public health and employee well-being, applying a thoughtful and employee-centered approach to benefits administration and support.

Deanna holds a B.S. in Cognitive Science and Communication Disorders and Sciences from William Paterson University and an M.P.H. in Public Health, with a concentration in Health Services, from the Brown University School of Public Health.
