April Smith joined Flagship Pioneering in 2022 and serves as a Manager, Compensation. She partners with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and business leaders across the Flagship ecosystem to develop compensation solutions that support hiring, retention, and organizational growth.
April provides compensation guidance for Flagship and its portfolio companies, ensuring practices are competitive, equitable, and aligned with business goals. As the business owner and administrator of Flagship’s compensation management system, she oversees system configuration, process improvements, reporting, analytics, and annual compensation planning. She also manages executive and employee compensation offers and supports market benchmarking and job architecture work.
Prior to joining Flagship, April spent more than 20 years in the auto insurance industry, where she most recently served as Compensation Program Manager, leading compensation initiatives and managing the company’s employee recognition program while supporting broader talent and rewards strategies.
April brings extensive experience in compensation, systems administration, and program management, with a focus on building scalable processes that support employees and business leaders.
