Tom Kibasi

Tom Kibasi is the Senior Vice President of Strategy for Flagship’s Preemptive Medicine and Health Security initiative. He is responsible for supporting the development, launch, and management of Flagship’s efforts to originate and grow a new generation of companies aimed at preempting, predicting, preventing and/or delaying novel pathogens and chronic diseases.

Tom brings a wealth of healthcare and public policy experience to this role. He is the former director of the Institute for Public Policy Research, where he founded and chaired the Commission on Economic Justice, and made a significant impact in areas ranging from the funding and reform of the health and care system, real choices on Brexit, and recasting the relationship between tech and society.

Tom spent more than a decade at McKinsey & Company, where he was a Partner and held leadership roles in the healthcare practice in both London and New York City. He helped government institutions with healthcare reform across a dozen countries in five continents and served international institutions, such as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, and international foundations including The Rockefeller Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. While based in New York City, Tom supported U.S. state governments to implement innovations to expand coverage and improve the quality and accessibility of care as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

Tom is also a writer and researcher on politics and economics for The Guardian, and serves as non-executive director and Deputy Chair of Board of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, an organization that provides mental health and community services to more than 2 million people.

Tom holds an MA (1^st Class Honors) from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, and is an honorary lecturer at Imperial College London.
