Megan Fisklements joined Flagship Pioneering as a Principal in 2023. Working on a cross-disciplinary origination team, Megan specializes in venture creation for food, nutrition, and consumer packaged goods.
Prior to joining Flagship, Megan spent over a decade performing and leading research and development at early-stage, venture-backed food-tech startups, including Impossible Foods, Eat Just, and Foodome Inc. In her most recent role as Chief Food Science Officer at Foodome Inc., Megan built and led a team of computational biologists, data scientists, and food scientists using network medicine to uncover the therapeutic potential of bioactive secondary plant and fungal metabolites. Together, they built out an application pipeline and formulated prototypes of supplements, bioactive teas, soup broths, and granolas. Other successful projects included advances in annotation of untargeted gas and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry data via proprietary in silico compound library creation, and extensive text mining, natural language processing, and knowledge graphing of PubMed.
Megan earned her Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology from the University of California, Davis and a B.S. in Biology from Northeastern University. Her dissertation research focused on almond skin growth, development and pre- and post-harvest defects. Megan also has research experience in drug discovery at Novartis, materials science and engineering at Cornell University, protein chemistry at the Danforth Plant Science Center, and environmental bacteria community dynamics at Northeastern University.
